Configurable Storage & Sync Folder

So you can set it to a Dropbox or OneDrive folder for example and use alternative sync methods. Or just have it not so far down in the ~/Library folder and easier to find and access with other apps.

On iOS you can actually get full read and write permissions to a file in any storage provider on your phone (i.e. any storage that shows up in the File app). So you do not have to write separate sync backends - Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, etc will all be available for this. The downside is that sync is not as immediate, and you cannot reliably cooperate on the same file without causing syncing issues. My suggestion is that we get to make a special kind of NotePlan Space for this. Where we select where in the filesystem to store the data, and those kind of spaces can't be used for collaboration. It'd be an ok MVP for this.

I would love to see an option to store my notes on Google Drive. I really like the app, but I can't use iCloud for any work data/info.

Many organizations are now disabling icloud in the MacOS security baseline to adhere to NIST 800-53r5. We really need additional sync options or configurable sync locations so we can specify the folder and use another cloud option.

Very happy with CloudKit sync, but would love to have the txt note folder path user configurable just so it's not buried so deep in ~/Library

An enthusiastic +1 to this. What is the status of this feature request - is it in the roadmap?

This fits the .md-philosophy of apps playing nicely with each other. ## Smaller solution - Allow to chose any folder in my iCloud for Calendar and Notes OR - Allow us to pick a folder inside the NotePlan3 folder for DailyNotes and Notes This way it would be possible to build a folder-structure (within NotePlan3 folder) that works with other apps as well. ## Example .- MD .--- Projects .--- Essays .--- Journal .----- Daily .----- Monthly and then use NotePlan for the "Projects" (Notes) and "Daily" (Calendar) while using e.g. Ulysses/Obsidian for "Essays" and "Monthly" Journaling. ## Current problems - When I want to backup only my notes manually (GitHub etc.), I have to remove Backups, Templates etc. - NotePlan forces me to use a certain Folder sturcture that doesn't make sense for me or other apps - I cannot "hide" certain folders from NotePlan that I want to have in my markdown-notes folder but don't want to use in NotePlan (which makes search more messy)

An energetic +1 for this. After surviving Evernote’s, Ulysses’ and Craft’s attempts to hide my notes from me, they are now in my Documents folder and they’re not moving from there! I hope you can make this feature happen, to make NotePlan my primary app. Recently I’ve noticed a lot of iOS apps (including iA Writer, Taio, 1Writer…) can load up entire folders outside of their own iCloud folder and then go about their business. Obviously on the Mac this is not a problem. Would be great if NotePlan could do the same so I don’t have to alter my file structure to work with it. Thanks Eduard!

If I could put all my feature up-votes on this one, I would. I have a lot of existing notes in a different place, and moving the folder will break some older (non-wiki) links.

It also would be great having a configurable storage and sync folder on iOS - which hopefully would allow syncing via webdav (e.g. via nextcloud app).

I use iCloud syncing just fine w/ Obsidian. It would be great to have both Noteplan and Obsidian point to the same (arbitrary) iCloud folder.

It would be great to have this be configurable. My use case is that I use NotePlan for my notes that are in a git repository along with other files from other apps. Currently at the end of the day I rsync all note files from the NotePlan location into the repository and commit and push there. And it would be nice to not have to do the additional step but have the notes stored in there right away.

I think leaning on CloudKit is the right way to go. Most of my use cases for knowing where the folder is would be resolved by `Open location` or `Open` (in default app) context menu actions for files and folders. For me, the default app is Typora so I would be straight into an editor :)

Just setting expectations: CloudKit may not give any control over the folder location. Using iCloud as a sync option is easier to find in Mac ~/Library, but sync isn't nearly as responsive (or stable, IMO)

> easier to find and access with other apps This is the key for me.
