Expiring Tasks
In my template for "daily", I have a task for "Check personal email" and "workout". Sometimes I don't check these off (whether or not I did them), but that means that after a while, I have a ton of open tasks. I'd like to mark a task as "cancel at the end of the day" or something like that, if I know that I don't want to keep it open after the day ends.

So, if I understand correctly, you would like to have an option to mark certain tasks as "cancel at the end of the day" in your daily template to avoid having a long list of open tasks? Have you tried the feature Checklist instead of Tasks? If you’ve made it a habit to skip doing it regardless if there’s a badge or a reminder, I’d suggest using Checklist which is a visual cue for you, not a Task which you want to be bothered by the system to complete. The markdown for checklist is the plus character “+”, shortcut (Ctrl + Shift + L) or via your favorite navigational menu “Format” or “Aa” Checklists are just a visual markdown and are not interpreted as a Task. So no badges, red highlights in calendar, or cluttering the open Tasks list in search or filters. But they can be added to the Timeline as Time-Blocks just the same. Awesome improvement imo.
