This would be indeed possible, Apple has an API for that. But I'm not sure how we could integrate it? Like linking can be done, but where to show the information so that it's more useful than using simply mention tags. Or pulling names from Contacts when you hit "@"? Not sure. What problem does it solve?
Eduard Metzger Thinking it through a bit more I see your point. Maybe creating notes for contacts (or a note with a list of contacts) would help. Each contact with their “@…” included in the note should come up when searching the particular “@..” If using the Fantastical Calendar bundled Cardhop app a link to each contact could also be included in the contacts NotePlan note info.
Eduard Metzger In pursuit of the all-in-one, I'm thinking along the lines of Stuart. Being able to pull contact info in with an @mention and a drop-down window to select import would be good for a root note about the person. Then, in future @mentions, being able to access their phone number or email address in task or note would be great. Same with being able to have birthdays, anniversaries, or any other significant dates that are part of the contact record that could appear in a calendar or daily note would be super.
Stuart Walker So one is importing all contacts as notes? That's one option, but I don't completely see which problem it solves. You now have duplicated data, potentially slowly going out of date. Having @ tags automatically read and suggest names makes sense to me. This way you don't start from zero. But the benefit seems marginal.
CCote Thanks for chiming in. My questions below sound a bit critical, I really want to figure out some form of integrating contacts that provides real value and doesn't only appear superficially useful: You mean you want to import a person with the details as an individual note? Or just see the info in a popup (which would be almost the same as opening Contacts and searching for the person)? @mentions accessing email / phone number. How would this look like practically? And if you can access the email / phone number, how would you use it? Something like copy the email to switch to your email app and then write the email there? Wouldn't you mostly have the email address already in the email app? Birthdays appear in the calendar through the birthdays calendar normally, at least for me it does or did? I stopped checking actually.
Eduard Metzger Thanks for the follow-up. Appreciate the intent and share the goal. I’d use Contacts info in two ways: 1) I’d love to be able to import contact info for a person in a project note or template (like one I have set up as a CRM-type note for people who are clients, partners, vendors, etc. 2) I’d also love to be able to include an @Name mention with a task in a project or daily note (here most often) and, when I type the @Name, have a pop-up or right-click option that shows their phone number, email that I can select by clicking and have it appear in the task as a hyperlink. From their, it could open an email in my app as you say or even initiate a call. Yes, you might already have the address in your email, but there are cases when you wouldn’t—like new clients. Both of these reduce friction, increase speed, make it easier to collaborate if the other person doesn’t have this info, by not having to go to Contacts or even to the CRM-type note. You’d be able to easily keep in flow working in the project note that person is related to or the daily note you need to take action to contact them. On the birthdays/anniversaries—yes, you’re right. I just need to select the calendar. Thank you!
CCote Thanks for elaborating. Makes sense, I like the importing feature, possibly we could also search for contacts in the command bar and the @mention linking.
I like to "chunk down" tasks by having all the information I need right there, either as a link or a reminder. I would be great if "call Eric" could be a link to his number, or clicking "email Eric" would open an email addressed to him. This reduces friction & helps me leap into the task.
