Eduard Metzger: Eventually you can, but it can take 20-30 seconds. I tried it now on a fast network: rebooted the phone, opened noteplan, and it took two seconds to display 17 references to today. Maybe the references slow it down? Last time on a train without wifi and w data on, it took about 30 seconds until noteplan reacted to swipes. One solution I can think of is an option in the preferences: when noteplan opens, open either "today" or a specific note of my choice immediately with the cursor at the end of the note, load references in the background.
I agree, maybe a special treatment of Today's note is better than a new inbox note - like keeping that one file "offline" in dropbox, for example. Then at least I can type somewhere it makes sense and don't need to dael with multiple inbox notes. Should be quick, iust a few kb.
I'm not saying this is the best solution, but I'm certainly upvoting to say that this is an issue.
Jonathan Clark: What seems to be the problem? You can already use NotePlan offline or not?
Eduard Metzger: I now have a much newer iPhone, so it's now rare for me to be without useful 4G if I'm not on WiFi. So I'm now rarely in a position to see this. But I do get offline notifications at times, and it's only one button tap to dismiss, but even that gets in the way when you're trying to jot something down quickly. Could there be a different way in the interface to indicate that it is offline? Turn something red, perhaps?
Jonathan Clark: Ok I see what you mean. Yes, that one can be annoying. It could instead show a red dot or so where the loading icon is right now.
Eduard Metzger: That would be well worth trying, thanks.
Thanks for sharing this. NotePlan does not require internet connection for you to start typing. You can use it completely offline, even today. You open today's note and type anything in there. Later it syncs. So I'm not fully understanding what should be changed?
