I name my tags in a way that forces autosuggest to be more helpful and organized. The first letter or two. as in: @C/Clientname or @P/Placename
Slightly at a tangent, but @ Mentions and # Hashtags could be far more useful to be sorted by last use and/or number of occurrences, in both the sidebar and autocomplete. This might be a simple way to at least allay a number of current issues with them. They are unaffected by note sort order, so that may or may not make it easier.
Something like a black/white list of tags?
Eduard Metzger: Yes, that would help. I think in the context I've described here, the whitelist would be more effective, as new items from others can appear frequently in new clipped notes. I'd like the option of applying it to the sidebar list as well. There's still always search to find ones not on the whitelist when needed.
Eduard Metzger: What could be handy for starters is to ignore @ and # in quotes and link titles.
To show how bad the problem is and how unusable # and @ are for me here are my tags. 99% from various #numbers in link titles of articles i have saved.
Marcin Ignac: voting up this request to ignore @ and # in quotes and link titles!
As mentioned on Discord, a short "recent" listing at the top of the autocomplete popup may solve this issue.
If the top few items could be replicated at the top of the list, this would be a big help. Also, if deleting a tag didn't actually destroy text in all the notes in which it appeared, that'd be nice too.
