Ben: Did you install the latest update? This should not happen anymore with recurring events. Please let me know if the latest update fixes it (updated more than a week ago).
Amazing job! Is it possible to create a meeting note from the template and link it to the current/selected/daily note? Right now it is possible to append the whole note but linking alone would be super useful. I do now want to clutter my daily note but link all the events note. Another idea: when opening an event note from calendar and there is just a single event note, left click could open it directly. Dropdown not really needed. Another idea :) is to extract the zoom link and have it as a template variable.
Marcin Mieszek: You mean automatically linking the created meeting note inside the daily note? You could also link the meeting note to the daily note (the other way around) by adding a link to the date in the meeting note template. Left click on the event is already doing something else, but maybe clicking on the note icon could do that. And yes extracting the zoom/google meet/etc link is a cool idea.
Meeting Notes are available in the latest beta now (and soon as AppStore release): v3.5 BETA (Build 759 Mac / 758 iOS) available ➡️ TestFlight (iOS & Mac): https://testflight.apple.com/join/fm9q4OjE ➡️ Mac AppStore: https://noteplan.co/download/NotePlan-3-Beta-759-AppStore.… ➡️ Setapp AppStore: https://noteplan.co/download/NotePlan-3-Beta-759-Setapp.zi… See the complete change log with videos and screenshots on Discord: https://discord.com/channels/763107030223290449/763108484455…
On Mac and iOS partially done. Will create some more UI around it, but it can be used in the next beta soon with custom templates.
Eduard Metzger: Will you also be pulling in the attendee list and notes from the calendar item?
Mike Martin: Would love to see attendees able to be pulled in as well.
Tyler Wince Mike Martin: Yes! both things can be pulled in! In my example above it does it, but the test event has no attendees, so it came out empty.
Eduard Metzger: Does it pull in emails? Names? Names with email as link? I'm not sure it's possible, but would be amazing to somehow auto-create a `@TylerWince` tag in the attendees at some point in the future. Maybe a plugin idea....
Tyler Wince: Cool idea! I can add something for that. It pulls Emails and if you have them in your contacts, I think it pulls the names. I don't fully get the logic yet, but I saw emails and names.
Eduard Metzger: Excellent! It would be amazing if it pulled in if they accepted the meeting or not as well. Craft does something similar really well.
The key thing for me about meetings is preparation. I create a page for each meeting I have about a week in advance, so that I can track what I have to do before it happens - e.g. pre-reading or creation of work, etc. Meetings are a waste of time coming in cold, so prep is important. I like to end up with a page with the prep and the agenda on it. Then I take notes during the meeting using - [ ] for action items. Then a link to the page on my daily page for the day it happens and ideally when/if weekly pages turn up, on the relevant weekly page.
This is a huge area that no app has really solved. Craft does a really nice job with creating a note from a calendar meeting, pulls in the notes (which often contain the agenda) the zoom link, and list of attendees along with who accepted (automatic attendance taking). I think the key solve here would be what to do with the notes, making them very useful for after the meeting with linking by linking the notes back to the invite, maybe enable something that would draft an email follow-up for you, etc.
This would be very useful.. Craft does a pretty good job of integrating the calendar events and lets you easily create event based notes. Would love to see NP integrate this.
Amine Ouahidi: Yes I'd love to see something similar to what Craft does, brining in all the participants (and who accepted or did not for automatic attendance taking along with meeting notes which often includes the agenda
When is this going to be worked on? This and the Weekly Planning are the two most crucial things I need from Noteplan - these are both DAILY workflow items for me. They will 100% increase your engagement with the app as well. I would be willing to _pay more_ for Noteplan if it had these features.
Would love the option to create a ## Meeting Section in the current Calendar note for a meeting on that date, complete with @Attendees.
Great to see this planned. I've been trying different ways to link notes to events. Currently using the Event Helpers plugin to insert matching events.
Evan Li: Hi Evan, I am new to Noteplan, and have been trying to use the Event Helpers plugin you are using, but not sure if I am doing it right. I downloaded it then typed in /insert day's event as list, but I keep on getting the invalid JSON5 error. Did you have to update the code before you could use it? Sorry, I'm not familiar enough with coding.
Judy Nguyen: Hey Judy, I think '/insert day's event as list' command works after installation. You only need to add matching criteria in the _configuration template if you want to use the '/insert matching event' command.
Evan Li: Aww, got it. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be working for me, but it also might be user error. I will keep trying. Thank you! Update: figured it out. Found a missing comma in the default configuration code.
Yes! Another fantastic feature coming
Further impetus for this: yesterday’s [The Sweet Setup article comparing Craft and NotePlan](https://thesweetsetup.com/comparing-crafts-new-daily-note-fe…) has this interesting nugget: > … a list of your appointments for each day are visible in the left sidebar. To create meeting minutes, you simply need to click and drag (or tap and hold on iPad) the event in the left sidebar into your daily note. That event immediately becomes a page inside your daily note and you can then jump into that block to take your meeting minutes. Again, because the event is a block, you can also store other pages, files, images, sketches, or any other block types inside your meeting minutes. > The simplicity and design of Craft’s calendar integrations is immaculate — it’s ridiculously easy to use, looks fantastic, has broad flexibility, and is quickly searchable for whenever you need. > NotePlan allows you to actually manage your calendar right inside the app — complete with the ability to create new events, delete events, and create reminders — but there aren’t the streamlined capabilities present for taking complete meeting minutes. I can achieve some of this by writing a plugin in the short-term, but it deserves being a full built-in feature.
Jonathan Clark: Meeting minutes are the bane of my existence - keeping the agenda, my notes from the meeting, the transcript, and then the draft versus 'approved' minutes. It always seems like an explosion of files, none of which are in the right folders (Does the final minutes go back in the previous meeting folder, or the folder for the meeting where they were approved?) ugh. I sincerely welcome any help at all in this area. Thank you!
Matthew Latimer: Ha! I know exactly what you mean by the which-folder-to-put-minutes-in problem ... but you're the first person I know whose actually written it down. I've taken to doing minutes/notes that need to be shared in Google Docs, as I can then at least name different versions, and so go from 'draft' to 'draft for circulation' to 'approved'.
Craft has this, works brilliantly, any idea how they handle it?
Combining this with Calendar sync would be really powerful — if I could start with a Google Calendar event and drag it off the timeline to take notes on it here, or start with a task/section here and schedule it in order to push it onto my Google Calendar, it would become very, very easy to keep the two in sync.
Say more about this? I like the general concept, but is the quick meeting note a separate file, linked to at the drag point? Or something else?
There's a detail to be sorted here about what to do when a calendar event gets archived off after months or years (in some but not all calendar systems)? We'd not want to lose the meeting note if the linked calendar item got archived.
Jonathan Clark: Yes, the notes would be saved with some "weak" linking, so they don't get deleted or disappear if the event is no more.
Anton Sklyar: Just merged it!
Yeah, if we could have not only "project" notes and "daily" notes, but also "meeting" notes, that would be a perfect match! Some thoughts on the implementation: 1. Click/tap on the event and choose "Create meeting note". Creates a section in the daily note named after the meeting with a time code, and a quote with notes from the meeting details (something similar to what Agenda does when you create a note based on the calendar event). 2. Display meeting note link directly in the calendar event details (only in NotePlan, of course), and display a link to calendar event in the meeting note (under the meeting heading), if that's possible, just to switch between them easily. 3. Dedicated "meeting notes" section in the daily note, displayed below any other stuff that you wrote into the daily note. By default, all the meeting headings are collapsed. And they update automatically if you change the event in the calendar.
One thing I'm finding a bit tricky is recurring events. As of right now, every note associated will show up when I right click the event. So if I have a weekly meeting with someone and want to find the note for that day, I have to click the meeting and look through a huge amount of notes. Is there a way to just have the meeting note associated with that date's meeting, not every one of them?
