Memory overhead
I had to remove my NotePlan iOS when I discovered more than 4 Gb memory allocated to it. ProbaBly about 100 notes and some raw images — 10s not 100s or thousands.

Eduard Metzger: Thanks, Eduard. I’ll reinstall and keep an eye on the backups as you suggest.
How do you look up the memory allocation on iOS?
Eduard Metzger: It shows up under Settings > General > iPhone storage
Ian Greig: Thanks for sharing, I'm reaching almost 1GB after deleting the backups, but I do have thousands of notes and also many screenshots. And the app itself makes up 220MB or so. So it sounds like you had some extra data, most probably backups.
These might have been backups. In Files, if you go into the folder "On my iPhone" and then "NotePlan", you can delete the backups folder. You might have unusually many backups?
