I have something in my lab which does exactly this. It is not ready for release yet but is a "global quick capture" if you will. Basically, does exactly what you are asking for :-)
Mike Erickson: did you ever release this? Even with more Shortcut integration in NotePlan now, I would love to see something more like what OP described.
Stacey Nah, it kind of died on the vine with Shortcuts integration. Since you can access shortcuts in menu bar, this kind of took the back burner. Now that I am _back_ make it will resurface one day ;-)
Besides, if the menubar app can support calendar and show tasks for the following a few days, that would be even better. Such feature is like Fantastical but can more powerful with Noteplan.
Have you checked out the Quick Capture plugin? If you set a global hotkey for the NotePlan command bar it gets you great speed.
Karl Sander: Hi Karl, that's a good point. Yes, I have checked that. But I am looking for a Evernote-like function which I don't need to memorize any hotkeys for that. In that way, I can check the icon on the menubar, type in any texts and post it to my "Today" note.
Karl Sander: you could also use Shortcuts with an x-callback-url to put something in the menu bar for quick input. I have this set for notes and tasks in conjunction with the Quick Capture plugin
I would very much love this, too. I envision a Fantastical menu bar-like feature. This would provide you with a floating daily note that could be easily referenced, scrolled, and typed into. Having a quick pop-up that appears on top of everything else without fully switching over to the app would be quite handy, especially during a meeting or Zoom call when you need to quickly reference your notes.
