Quick access to raw Markdown

Most of the time I enjoy rendered Markdown. It looks nice. But sometimes I want to switch *quickly* to raw Markdown, because it's faster to edit. In NP 3.0.21 I have to go to Noteplan's settings, change the mode, and go back to the note. In other Markdown apps I use regularly (iA Writer, Obsidian) there's a keyboard shortcut or button to quickly toggle between Edit and Preview mode. Personally, I never really liked single pane Markdown apps (Ulysses, Typora, Bear), that try to shield their users from Markdown. Their graphical user interface make complicated, what is so easy in plain Markdown. Noteplan 1 didn't render Markdown at all. Live rendering was [introduced in Noteplan 2.2](https://www.noteplan.co/blog/markdown-live-rendering-making-…). Since it became the new default, the beauty and efficiency of raw Markdown editing seems to have been forgotten (see [this bug](https://noteplan.canny.io/general-feature-request/p/unrender…) for example). Edit: Another name could be **Source Code Mode** (see comments below).

I would love to see this feature in Noteplan. I often need to refer to 'raw' markdown. I'm currently assessing Noteplan and coming from Obsidian and Typora both of which have this feature, I am really missing it.

I'm also looking for this feature. Trying to master the Markdown syntax because, for me at least, it's usually faster to type that in than do a lot of mouse clicks on context menus, etc. Would very much appreciate a keyboard shortcut to swap back and forth between raw text and rendered Markdown.

I will comment on the other side of Stephen Hryncewicz as someone who uses NP all day, every day (including weekends) and I have a very large note library, which is basically my go to tool for ANY type of note taking that I wish to save. Having the ability to do ALL THE THINGS in a note editor is fabulous, and while there are other tools that may handle more extensive text editing, the fact that it all in NP along with the other features (such as daily notes, tasks, etc) is a perfect combination With regards to this feature, I am a software developer and I write a LOT of markdown, thus having the ability to view any give NP note underlying markdown would be an awesome feature. As it is now, if I need to view the underlying markdown, maybe to prep the note to go to another markdown viewer (such as Github) I have to copy/paste the text to something like Drafts, or VSCode and make any subtle tweaks, etc. (again, to get it read to go elsewhere) If I had the “raw” (or as Jonathan Clark stated `Source Code` mode) directly in NotePlan, I would not have to worry about going to another editor. Further, if there is a “raw” mode, it is not like it would get in anybody’s way, it is something that would be a deliberate action, and it would not be adding any “bloat” to the application as it could be handled by NotePlan excellent theming feature.

I'm worried that NP is turning from a pretty simple BuJo-like application into a full-blown text-processor, of which there are many. I already have IA Writer to do any hard-core markdown editing I also have Drafts that integrates workspaces, actions for automating my workflows. NotePlan, for me, is a simple place for project notes and tasks, not for large-scale text projects... But that's just me.

I'm with Stephen Hryncewicz here. But that said, Typora also has a simple keyboard shortcut to switch between rendered and non-rendered Markdown as well. It would be a sensible addition to NP.

Jonathan Clark: Just for future reference: Typora calls it "Source Code Mode". It's available as a [Shortcut](https://support.typora.io/Shortcut-Keys/#view) and menu item: *View > Source Code Mode*.

Rhubarb: I agree. Typora has the most elegant solution to this. Particularly with the Cmd+\ keyboard shortcut. Although I hate seeing raw markdown as I type (I personally prefer live markdown) I agree that it is often quicker to edit in raw. So I frequently use Typora for this with the Bear-inspired [Ursine theme](https://theme.typora.io/theme/Ursine/). I’d consider this the ideal solution for NotePlan too and I hope it gets implemented soon.
