Quick Entry

The one missing for me to seriously give Noteplan a shot is a global quick capture experience a la Things' "Quick Entry": https://culturedcode.com/things/support/articles/2249437/ Cultured Code really nailed this but sadly also let it languish because there's no NLP, no quickly adding tags or labels on quick entry... The next best is Todoist's quick entry. Functionally it does everything I'd expect but Todoist is an Electron app and I prefer macOS native applications. Lastly, Things also has "quick entry with autofill" which is just amazing--when it works. I'm not aware of a good third option on macOS today, which is sad. I think such a feature would be amazing for Noteplan, an otherwise beautiful and carefully crafted, native macOS application.

It's not quite as fast as capture.surf, but NotePlan's system-wide command bar + my Quick Capture plugin does the same job. Type /qath in the command bar and then what you type next will go into any note you choose to pick, and under any heading you pick. Even quick is /jot which will then drop the text into your predefined 'inbox' location, which can be a specific note, or your daily or weekly note.

BTW since I wrote this I discovered https://www.capture.surf/ and love it. Haven't yet tried to make it work with Noteplan, though it should be possible since it's just Markdown! I've been capturing lots of stuff but actually looking at it hasn't been the best experience.. that's where Noteplan could come in :) Would be even better if Noteplan itself had this kind of capture experience, however.

Wow I took care to format this properly, with new lines and everything... looks like userjot completely ignored my formatting and just bunched everything up into one paragraph 😠 Update: fixed.
