Smart markdown inserts

Summary: Wrap selected text when typing a markdown or bracket character Problem: To format existing text (code, emphasis, parentheses), I have to type the opening character, move to the end of the word and type the closing one. It is repetitive and easy to get wrong. Why it matters: NotePlan is built around fast, keyboard-driven writing. Formatting is one of the most frequent actions in a markdown editor, so removing a few keystrokes each time adds up quickly. Most modern markdown editors already do this, so people expect it. Proposal: When text is selected and I type a wrapping character, NotePlan wraps the selection instead of replacing it. - Characters: `, *, _, ~, (, [, {, “ , etc. - The selection stays active after wrapping, so I can chain them (for example * twice for bold) Done when: - Selecting "word" and typing ` gives `word` - Selecting "word" and typing ( gives (word) - Without a selection, typing behaves as it does today
