>Today or >Next thing to do relative link

I would like to have the possibility to see a task in the reference section of the current day. The day after if i dont have finished it it wil still show in reference section but from today the new day. If I write >Next or >Today it always follow the today's note not a specific day.

There is now a >today (repeat until complete) option

May 3, 2022

This is done, right? I can label a task >today and it shows up above Todays note. The >today disappears when marking the task done. Very useful. It would be nice to include this version of "today" in the schedule button on ios so I can assign >today more quickly. Right now it shows up as soon as I type > but that is hidden in numbers, then shift, then >, three taps away. I have found this to be extremely useful since I don't have to dig for a specific list of things to do but always see all tasks that I want in front of me without leaving "today" or having to reschedule them or having to go to review. I also can leave any new important task literally anywhere. And since this disappears when done, I don't see all the done tasks that once were a >today task, I just see the ones not yet done. Now I can organize my tasks in project notes, always see the whole picture in the order that they need to be done, and can pick them up whenever. Much better than assigning time slots for specific tasks and having to make lots of little changes if one thing gets behind that other things depend on.

I worry that this would remove the helpful friction that forces you to review your scheduled tasks. Similar to the Bullet Journal concept where you need to do a bit of manual work to carry tasks over. I like automation in general (like here automating the scheduled day to update with a relative link), but here it might remove the useful friction?

Eduard Metzger: We seem to have *very* different views of the Bullet Journal method. In my understanding, based on Ryder Carroll's book, BuJo is *not* about "friction" or forcing the user, but about mindfulness and a serene state of mind. 🧘 We also seem to disagree on automation. Some features that you find convenient, I find an annoying source of clutter. That's why I want *off-switches* for even more of these automation features (see [enable real moving of tasks](https://noteplan.canny.io/task-management/p/user-preferences…)). However, we seem to agree that "to do a bit of manual work to carry tasks over" is a good thing. We just seem to have different preferences, which work should be manual. ;-) In the case of `>today`, I think that Jonathan Clark made an excellent point. The requested feature would break an existing automation that is useful and works well.

If you type `>today` and press return then NP helpfully automatically expands it to a `>2021-03-29` date string. So we have to be careful about implementing this, Rhubarb, to avoid it confusing people.

Jonathan Clark: Good point! I use this expansion so frequently with date tags, that I didn't think of it. This is a sign of good usability. The expansion feature works so well, that I don't notice it any more.

`>today` as [date tag in general notes](https://noteplan.canny.io/task-management/p/date-tags-as-def…) would make sense to me. I know, that it's not what time management gurus recommend. But it's how many users (myself included) tend to approach task scheduling. I'd use it for some of those tasks that I know I *should* do today, but never really find the time to do.
